BMW E39 E38 E53 resting pin removal

Place plastic bag / sheet (to protect dial)  over resting pin

Use needle nose pliers 

Use edge of clear plastic diffuser below the dial as a  pivot point,

then grip top of pin and lift up, using the  pliers to pullpin upwards

put bag over pin then use pliers to pull upwards
